A growing annual meeting
This is the fourth time the symposium has been held, and it has become an established date for clinicians, researchers and patient organisations working on ME/CFS, Long COVID and other post-infection syndromes. It is organised by the Institute for Cardiovascular Diseases “Dedinje” under the patronage of the Ministry of Health, with Professor Branislav Milovanović, a member of EMERG, and Academician Professor Milovan Bojić as organisers.
The symposium is supported by the Association for Neurocardiology of Serbia, the Serbian Medical Society, the Section for the Autonomic Nervous System of the Serbian Medical Society, and the Association of Patients with Chronic Fatigue Syndrome and Syncope Crises. It is supported by the European ME Alliance (EMEA), whose members are actively involved in the programme.
Young EMERG on the programme
This year members of Young EMERG, the early career researcher group, will give talks at the symposium.
They include Nikola Markovic from Belgrade, Timon Zupanc from Ljubljana, and Karen Giménez-Orenga and María Ljungström from the
Catholic University of Valencia.
It is a welcome opportunity for a new generation of ME researchers to present their work to an international audience.
Following the DISCOVER-ME award
The symposium follows the award of EU Horizon funding to the DISCOVER-ME project. Professor Milovanović is involved in DISCOVER-ME, and the Serbian patient group takes part in the project’s patient and public involvement work with EMEA. The symposium is a further sign of how closely researchers, clinicians and patient organisations across Europe now work together on ME.
